Energy Labelling for Best Efficiency

Carrier Midea India Private Limited is fully committed to promoting environmental sustainability and social responsibility. As part of this commitment, we have endorsed the Bureau of Energy Efficiency Standards and Labelling Program (referred to as the ‘BEE Labelling Program’).

The BEE Labelling Program is a system that evaluates the energy efficiency of certain household electronic products, including room air-conditioners. The primary objectives of this program are to reduce the greenhouse effect on the environment and to provide consumers with information on the energy and cost-saving potential of relevant products.

Electrical appliances are rated on a scale of 1 to 5, depending on their energy efficiency, and are denoted by stars for easy comprehension. As the adage goes, “The more stars a product has, the more energy-efficient it is.”

Star Ratings for Room Air Conditioners as per BEE Regulations

As per BEE regulations, room air conditioners are rated based on their energy efficiency on a scale of 1 to 5 stars. The higher the number of stars, the higher is the energy efficiency of the room air conditioners, and vice versa.

It is important to note that over the years, BEE has modified the energy efficiency rating of room air conditioners to make them more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Effective from 1st July 2022, BEE has mandated the change of star rating for room air conditioners based on a higher energy efficiency norm. The energy efficiency ratio for the new split and window room air conditioners is as follows:

Do’s and Don’ts While Purchasing a Star-Labelled Air-Conditioner

When purchasing a star-labelled air conditioner, there are some important things to keep in mind to ensure you make an informed and efficient purchase.

Below are some do’s and don’ts to consider:

Do’s

  • Check the cooling capacity of the air conditioner and its power consumption in watts.
  • Choose an air conditioner with a higher star rating but do not compromise on the cooling capacity.
  • Always prefer a higher star-rated air conditioner over a lower-rated one. Although higher-rated air conditioners are more expensive than lower-rated ones, their energy conservation benefits will provide a profitable return on investment in the long run.
  • Choose an air conditioner based on the room dimensions and cooling capacity needed, while always preferring a higher star-rated product.

Don’ts

  • Do not solely rely on the star rating to make a purchase decision. Consider other factors such as room size, usage, and placement.
  • Do not purchase an air conditioner with a lower star rating solely because it is cheaper. This could result in higher electricity bills and lower energy efficiency.
  • Do not purchase an air conditioner with a higher star rating if it exceeds the cooling capacity you require. This could lead to unnecessary energy consumption and higher electricity bills.
